Prevent property damage and help make it possible to remain in your homeThe ow of sewer water can reverse when water levels rise, and may push water out of your toilets. Place plasc bags full of water inside the bowls to prevent water from gushing up.Floodwaters can turn your valuable possessions to garbage in an instant, transforming the streets into a giant dumping ground once they recede. Take steps to protect your property and keep damage to a minimum.Move at least a few days’ worth of clothing to an elevated place where it will not get wet.Move your car to a safe locaon as soon as possible. If you cannot move it, try to at least keep the engine from geng ooded.Protect important documents like your bank books, insurance cards, passport, and so on by placing them in an elevated place away from the oodwaters.Water may also ruin your precious photo albums and memorabilia. engineKeep in mind that trying to move heavy objects without enough help can lead to injury. Don’t overdo it!External air condioning units and wiring can cause a short circuit. Shut down the breakers to be safe.Keep plenty of duct tape and kitchen plasc wrap on hand. These items oen come in handy during ood condions.Keep the bathtub lled with water. This prevents water from coming up out of the sewer and also creates a supply of water for household use. Filled bathtubs can also help keep underground water levels down.Any valuable electronics or appliances that can be moved should be taken to higher ground.Remove tatami mats and place them in an elevated locaon.If moving tatami mats is dicult, place them on a table or other elevated surface to keep them as dry as possible. Make sure that sepc tank covers are sealed ghtly to prevent them from becoming damaged by large amounts of dirt or mud.
